old friends, new poems | sunday 7/24

Award winning poet and author Naomi Shihab Nye will join Bamboo Ridge Press counterparts Wing Tek Lum, Juliet S. Kono and Lois Ann Yamanaka to present Old Friend New Poems, readings from their respective works in an informal event at fishcake on Sunday, July 24 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. (parking in the old Lanai Things lot next door to fishcake). 

This reading is open to the public and admission is free, although space is limited. The event is co-sponsored by fishcake, Bamboo Ridge Press, Shangri La and the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art.

this past saturday we had fun with a few new ideas, an experiment of time and space, if you will!  much inspired by our in-house neighbors, morning glass coffee collaborated with bevy bar (another neighbor just a skip away) to serve a spin on irish coffee. morning glass tested late night hours with success. complementary to was our pop-up parklet. coffee shops are often a catalyst for conversation and community, a gathering place. in urban cities abroad, we see this manifest into creative usage of space: cue, parklet. parklets have...
