The Box Jelly and fishcake are now accepting proposals for the next Box Jelly + fishcake Artist-in-Residence, a 3-month opportunity to create new work for a solo exhibition in Honolulu, Hawai’i, in the heart of Kakaʻako. In anticipation of the next artist selection, The Box Jelly and Fishcake will kickoff a new event series called, Artists in Conversation on May 31st, 2017, at 6:00pm at The Box Jelly. The first session features recent artists-in-residence, Amelia Samari and Laurie Sumiye, who will lend unique insight into the their experiences with issues affecting today’s emerging designers, as well as answer questions about the upcoming summer residency.
The Box Jelly and fishcake are looking for bright enterprising creatives, who work in contemporary art practices and form, with big ideas and ambition to execute them. The residency includes a Box Jelly Dedicated Studio membership, a clean studio space, a solo exhibition at the end of the residency, access to creative and business mentoring with The Box Jelly and Fishcake teams, and an opportunity to earn a spot on Fishcake’s roster of local and international artists and designers. Fishcake sells artists’ work in two retail locations, as well as direct to homeowners and businesses through their interior design studio, Fishcake Works.
