this vessel by steve martin is quite different from his other pieces. it is a unique piece that is part of an ancient family of 'stirrup spout vessels'. named for the spouts' close resemblance to a riding saddle stirrup, its origin lies in the pre-columbian cultures of south america beginning in the early 2nd-millennium bce. carefully orchestrated abstract imagery atop functional pottery adds a modern spin to an ancient style.
