Workshop Description

open to teens (13 - 17) calling all young painters! This course is built for teens to create a stand out portfolio piece, develop their own visual language, and learn to talk about art. students will learn the basic principles of an artistic practice and explore their own voice, as well as learning to prepare painting surfaces. students will have the opportunity create a final project to exhibit at our fishschool summer showcase in august. Though it is not a requirement to be a prospective college applicant, all students will have access to one on one portfolio reviews + college prep coaching from the instructor and visiting artists. Students applying for undergraduate art programs will receive valuable insight from alumni and artists in the field. demo materials (small canvases, paint, brushes, etc) will be provided in the class fee. additional materials tailored to the student are encouraged to be purchased for final projects. six sessions june 12 - 28, 10a - 12p meeting days: wed + fri optional tuesday 10a - 12p, friday 1 - 3p independent studio hours about the instructor: born in japan and raised in honolulu, ayaka takao received a bfa in fiber from the maryland institute college of art in 2018 and has been an active studio artist since. takao has participated in group shows across the nation as well as solo shows in honolulu. they describe themselves as a "working, teaching artist", using ceramics, painting, drawing, and web-based media.

if for any reason you are unable to attend our workshop, we kindly request that you pass on the opportunity to a friend who may benefit from it. please note that we can only offer a 50% refund on a case-by-case basis, and only under extenuating circumstances. unfortunately, we cannot provide any refunds within 72 hours of the workshop start time. as an artist-led organization, we have dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to carefully plan and prepare for this workshop, including purchasing materials. we ask that you please respect our hard work and commitment before making a purchase. thank you for your understanding. if a class is canceled due to low attendance or teacher emergency then you may receive a full refund or choose another available class to attend.
