Workshop Description

1 day class led by kilikina open to levels, age 14+ make 4 distinctive dishcloths using Japanese Shibori resist-dying techniques. this class will use synthetic fiber-reactive dye instead of traditional indigo. the Japanese Shibori techniques that students will experiment with are Itajime (clamping and binding), Kanoko (folding, twisting, and binding), and Maki-Age (sewing and binding). participants will dye the fabric in class. the dishcloths need to cure at least 24 hours in a ziplock bag for best results. students will rinse, wash, and dry out their finished pieces at home. fiber-reactive dark blue dye, soda ash, rubber bands, thread, sinew, wooden blocks, needles and thread, and disposable gloves will be provided for use during the session. please do not bring additional items to dye. any additional items will be turned down. materials provided will pertain to the process of the dyeing workshop. some helpful items to bring: Rubber dishwashing gloves, an apron, an old towel, rag, or sponge, small scissors four quart-sized ziploc bags, two thick plastic bags, and one small bin or bucket SHI-BO-RI DYE-ING shibori dyeing process is when you clamp, bind, fold, or wrap fabric to achieve endless pattern variations.

if for any reason you are unable to attend our workshop, we kindly request that you pass on the opportunity to a friend who may benefit from it. please note that we can only offer a 50% refund on a case-by-case basis, and only under extenuating circumstances. unfortunately, we cannot provide any refunds within 72 hours of the workshop start time. as an artist-led organization, we have dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to carefully plan and prepare for this workshop, including purchasing materials. we ask that you please respect our hard work and commitment before making a purchase. thank you for your understanding. if a class is canceled due to low attendance or teacher emergency then you may receive a full refund or choose another available class to attend.
