Keith Yurdana - Artist statement:

Art is a way for me to explore the interconnection between all things.

Drawing is the work I do to describe this interrelationship. I often blend species and other elements found in nature to visually express the confluence of all things.

For me, time in nature nurtures a seed of awareness.

My observations germinate thoughts that sprout understandings and grow into graphite gestures made by hands.

Spontaneous marks that begin a drawing on paper or wood panel create layers of tangled lines like forest brambles I can peer into. In time, looking helps me excavate this thicket of strokes and discover hidden forms lingering within.

With fine lines shapes are slowly revealed, as one patiently exposes a woodland bird hiding in the brush by tracing its song back to source.

My drawing pursues a source hidden in the wilds of lines. I search for a “visual melody” flowing and felt between space and drawn mark.

Renderings grown from a raw calligraphy that represents and reveres the flow of energy and elements woven by nature.

Art practiced, as if it lives somewhere between a sacred act and a scientific discovery.
