fishschool

based in honolulu, hi

fishschool grew out of a special moment in november 2020, when fishcake was gifted a ceramic kiln from an honored friend, andrew mau, in exchange for a promise to use it in service of the artist community. by early 2021, with the support of many members of established ceramic institutions, the studio began to take shape with dedicated programming and a vision for community building.

today, fishschool has expanded on its founding members’ vision to foster a dynamic creative community in kakaʻako. it fulfills oʻahu’s hunger for innovative arts education with the help of many dedicated instructors, members, and volunteers, while organically cultivating an artist collective that shares values of love and kōkua. fishschool offers evening classes for ages 18+ in painting, drawing, textiles, beading, printmaking, ceramics, and jewelry making, and houses a fully functioning community ceramic studio and public kiln firing.

the beauty is that ceramic students often evolve into ceramic open studio members and eventually become instructors themselves, creating an ecosystem of artmaking and teaching.
