Step into the mesmerizing world of Binakol weaving—a traditional weave from Northern Luzon known for its hypnotic optical illusions and protective symbolism. In this 4-hour hands-on workshop, you’ll not only discover the cultural meaning behind the Kusikos spiral pattern but also learn the basics of weaving using a loom. Learn the cultural background of Binakol weaving while learning how to weave the Kusikos pattern using various yarns available. By the end you’ll have your own woven piece to take home. Open to beginners and intermediate crafters, no prior experience required. All materials provided. Ages 18+ About Hibla Philippines: Hibla Philippines is a social enterprise dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of Filipino textiles and empowering local weaving and sewing communities. Founded on the principles of sustainability and cultural pride, Hibla collaborates with 11 weaving communities and the Sto. Kristo Kusturera Producers Cooperative, which comprises over 90 seamstresses in Quezon City, Philippines. These partnerships bring to life modern and customizable garments that showcase the beauty of traditional weaves like Binakol, Kantarines, and Inabel. Through initiatives such as skill-based training, sustainable production practices, and innovative technology, including the development of a website application with garment-customization technologies under the DOST-WHWISE program, Hibla ensures that its artisans thrive in both local and global markets. By highlighting Filipino craftsmanship and fostering sustainable livelihoods, Hibla Philippines is more than a brand—it is a movement that uplifts communities and redefines how the world sees Philippine textiles.
