Workshop Description
5 day workshop With Courtney Liu All materials provided All levels welcome Ages 18+ Learn the centuries-old Japanese art of kintsugi, the practice of mending broken ceramics with lacquer and gold, transforming cracks into something more beautiful than the original. In this hands-on beginner workshop, you'll repair a small ceramic plate using traditional urushi lacquer and metallic powder, the same natural materials used by Japanese craftspeople for over 500 years. No epoxy! Each stage of the kintsugi process requires careful drying and curing before the next can begin, so the workshop unfolds over five weekly sessions. By the end, you'll leave with a finished, one-of-a-kind piece and a deeper appreciation for the beautiful philosophy of kintsugi! • All materials (urushi lacquer, tools, and a ceramic plate to mend – metallic brass powder is included, real gold is available for an extra fee of $50) • A brief history and philosophy of kintsugi • Step-by-step guidance through every stage of the process • Safety instruction for working with natural lacquer (some people are allergic if not wearing proper PPE)
