Workshop Description

4 session workshop With Forest Leonard Must have recent experience with throwing, this is not a beginners class Ages 18+ *There is a long break between the 3rd and 4th session of class. Since these pieces are larger they will need to be dried for longer before being bisqued. If you can’t make the last class you can choose a glaze and the studio will glaze for you.* Vases have been a recurrent form that potters have been making for thousands of years, both for function and decoration. Join us for a 4 week class on throwing vases and tall vessels on the wheel. Instructor Forest Leonard will cover the techniques for making and decorating classic vase shapes, and a variety of methods to alter their forms. First, students will learn techniques for throwing tall cylinders, then move on to shaping and refining their forms. After the wheel, students will explore ways to alter and accentuate their thrown vases, including darting, hand forming, faceting and paddling. Next, students will learn how to trim their vases and create a variety of surface textures. This course is intended to improve your ability to throw tall forms and alter them in fun ways.
